A Time to Hate? From childhood we are taught not to hate others, Luke 6:27-28 Do not hate enemies; Matthew 5:43-44 Yet, there is a “time to hate”, Eccl. 3:8 –“Set against”, hence, to set oneself against –Comparatively / Relatively, Luke 14:26 God so loved the world…yet, God hates sin, Proverbs 6:16 –King David prayed from a good heart of “perfect hatred”, Psalms 139:21-24 2

Hate: Abhor Evil (Rom. 12:9) Hate: “to hate (personally): -enemy, foe, … odious” (Strong’s Dictionary) –No friendship with, Prov. 3:32 –No delight in, Prov. 11:20 –“A right feeling of aversion from what is evil” (Vine), Heb. 1:9 Abomination: “Disgusting, an abhorrence” (Strong’s, 123) –Sin is loathsome, detestable, reprehensible and repulsive to God (who is holy), Hab. 1:13 –We must be holy, 1 Pet. 1:15-16 3
