3 14 Follow the way of love and eagerly desire gifts of the Spirit, especially prophecy. 2 For anyone who speaks in a tongue does not speak to people but to God. Indeed, no one understands them; they utter mysteries by the Spirit. 3 But the one who prophesies speaks to people for their strengthening, encouraging and comfort. ~ 1 Cor. 14:1-3

Simply, prophecy is “hearing” from God & speaking what you have hear in order to build up, comfort, or encourage someone.

7 Purpose of prophecy… There is a place for correction or direction in prophecy, but the main purpose is to find the gold in in the midst of the dirt of peoples’ lives. (Example: Gideon, Joseph, Jacob/Israel, etc.)

8 24 But if an unbeliever or an inquirer comes in while everyone is prophesying, they are convicted of sin and are brought under judgment by all, 25 as the secrets of their hearts are laid bare. So they will fall down and worship God, exclaiming, “God is really among you!” ~ 1 Cor. 14:24-25 “Secrets” can be translated “treasures” It is prophetic to find gold in the middle of the dirt in peoples’ lives.

9 23 for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, ~ Romans 3:23 “You were created for glory. The Holy Spirit convicts the world of sin, righteousness, and judgment, but the gifts of the Spirit convict the world of the glory of which they fell short.” ~ Kris Vallotton Example: The prodigal son “came to himself”…and came home
