Measuring Instructions

G - Measure from acromion process to acromion process – End of scapula to end of scapula (shoulder blade) – Determines placement of attachment points for an anterior trunk support ON A CHAIR: To determine upholstery width and placement of anterior trunk support straps Shoulder Width - G Acromion Processes

J - Measure width of trunk at appropriate height for the lateral supports – Use offset hardware if J is less than A – Consider thickness of lateral pads when choosing hardware ON A CHAIR: Use measurement for lateral thoracic pad placement. Add 1”. Trunk Width - J

Seat Width - A Measure the widest part of the seated anatomy – Hips, thighs or knees ON A CHAIR: keep same for active, full time users, add 1” for clients that are growing or expected to gain weight

Foot Length/Width - D D1 - Measure length of foot – Used to determine footplate length – Consider typical footwear D2 - Measure width of both feet – Used to determine width needed – Typical footwear – Orthotics or prosthetics worn in chair – Tapered front ends ON A CHAIR: Make sure, if ordering rigid chair with inset, that frame width is wider than D2

Head Height - H and N Add the cushion thickness to achieve height needed

Back Heights F Add the cushion thickness to achieve height needed. F - Measure from seat surface to the top of the shoulders. Required for passive users and those using tilt in space chairs.

Seat Depth - B Measure from the client’s most posterior aspect to the back of the knee Seat depth will differ depending on pelvic position ON A CHAIR: subtract 1” for general use, subtract 2” for very active users and custom rigid chairs, subtract 2” for clients with tight knees and foot propellers

Seat Depth - B Seat depth while client is sitting upright in neutral Added seat depth while client is sitting in posterior pelvic tilt

Lower Leg Length -C Measure from back of the knee to bottom of the foot – Ground clearance – Cushion height ON A CHAIR: Measure with shoes on. Subtract height of cushion.

Trunk Depth - K Measure from most posterior aspect of the trunk to front of chest – Determines length of lateral thoracic pads

Armrest Height - I Measure from the seat surface to the elbow – Must add the cushion thickness to achieve overall height needed. Measure in comfortable resting position.

Arm Length - L Place UE in optimal position Overall length depends on amount of support desired Measure support length required for adequate arm support. Measure to mid lower arm for active users. Measure to wrist for passive users. Measure to end of fingers for users with severe hemiplegia

Back Heights E Add the cushion thickness to achieve height needed on a chair. E - Measure from seat surface to inferior angle of the scapula. Required for active users with good trunk control.
