The IB Mission Statement The International Baccalaureate aims to develop inquiring, knowledgeable and caring young people who help to create a better and more peaceful world through intercultural understanding and respect. To this end the organization works with schools, governments and international organizations to develop challenging programmes of international education and rigorous assessment. These programmes encourage students across the world to become active, compassionate and lifelong learners who understand that other people, with their differences, can also be right.

OBJECTIVE FOR TODAY To connect the triangle in order to help students and parents understand: 1. The MYP Programme as a whole 2. The MYP Certificate or Record of Achievement 3. The requirements needed to qualify for entrance into the Qatar Academy International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme for grades 11+12. 4. The graduationrequirements and the MYP role in university placement. 5. Personal Project overview—Sudha Konnanath 6. Community & Service—Christine Blackburn

Assessment The IB Middle Years Programme Assessment (more on pg. 12 Student Handbook) All major student assessments in all subjects are: 1. Measured against established and distributed criteria, set forth for each subject area. 2. Standardized within department grade teams to ensure internal consistency. 3. Externally moderated by the International Baccalaureate to ensure that QA’s assessment matches international standards. 4. Leading to the MYP Certificate and entrance into the QA IB Diploma Programme in grades 11+12.

To obtain the Record of Achievement (MYP Parent Guide pg. 11) Description: An official document, provided by the IBO, that specifies the courses taken, grades earned, completion of C&S requirements, and Personal Project grade. Requirements: o Students must attend Qatar Academy for at least the entire 10 th grade year. o Students must complete Community & Service.

To obtain the MYP Certificate (MYP Parent Guide pg. 12) Description: Also provided by the IBO and given to students who fulfill more extensive requirements. Requirements: o In grade 10, earn a minimum average of 4 across all subject groups and the Personal Project. o In grade 10, earn at least a 2 in every subject group (see page 12 of MYP Parent Guide for list of subjects) o Earn at least a 3 on the Personal Project o Meet the Community & Service requirements every year at QA. o Enrolled in the MYP for at least the entire grade 9 and 10 school years.

REQUIREMENTS FOR ENTERING THE IB DIPLOMA PROGRAMME AT QA (pg. 7 in Student Handbook) The student must meet all the normal requirements of the QA Academic Probation Policy (Student Handbook pg. 6) during the grade 10 year. No student will be promoted to grade 11 if their term marks fall below the expected level of achievement (average of 4 for all classes, marks of 4 and above in Math, English and Science) for terms 1 and 2, or terms 2 and 3, of the grade 10 year.

The student must meet QA attendance requirements for the grade 10 year, which is a maximum of 18 days absent, for legitimate reasons only, per school year. The student must earn at least a 4 on the Personal Project. The student must complete all MYP Community and Service requirements, including the reflection journal, by March 30 of the grade 10 year. QA Graduation Requirements (Student Handbook pg. 8) All graduates must fulfill the following requirements from Grade 9 through12: CourseLoad o English 4 credits o Mathematics4 credits o Science3-4 credits o World Languages 3-4 credits o Physical Education4 credits o Visual and Performing Arts 2-3 credits o Technology 2 credits o Humanities3-4 credits o Total25-29 credits
