WHAT IS ADVANCED PLACEMENT (AP)? AP® courses are college-level courses offered in high school and are weighted Courses reflect what is taught in top introductory college courses Students take AP Exams at the end of the course, measuring their mastery of college-level work On a 5 point scale, a score of 3 or higher on an AP Exam can typically earn students college credit and/or placement into advanced courses in college www.collegeboard.org/apcreditpolicy. www.collegeboard.org/apcreditpolicy

AP AT WICKLIFFE – 8 OFFERINGS English: English Literature and Composition History and Social Sciences: European History, United States Government and Politics, United States History Mathematics: Calculus AB Sciences: Biology, Physics 1: Algebra-based World languages: Spanish Language and Culture

AP: THE BENEFITS Students learn rigorous college-level content and skills Taking AP is valued in the college admission process Opportunity to earn valuable credit and placement in college Taking an AP course helps students build critical thinking skills, confidence, and the essential time management and study skills needed for college success

AP EXAMS AP Exams are administered by schools worldwide on set dates in May each year. Exams are typically 2–3 hours and include: Multiple-choice questions Free-response items such as essays, problem solving, document-based questions and oral response

AP EXAM FEES The exam fee for 2015 is $91 per exam. The exam fee may be waived for students who qualify for free or reduced lunch

AP: IS IT RIGHT FOR ME? Do I have a passion for a particular subject? Have I prepared myself academically? Am I willing to spend more time on my studies both in and out of the classroom?

WHAT IS LAKESHORE COMPACT? A consortium of four school districts who unite to provide Career Technical Education Students spend a half day at Wickliffe and a half day at their program site during their junior and senior years Transportation is provided for coursework but not for internships

COLLEGE CREDIT PLUS (CCP) Formally known as PSEO Students have the opportunity to take courses at a local college while simultaneously being enrolled at Wickliffe. Credits may be earned for both high school and college transcripts with equivalent courses weighted Students accepted to participate may attend part-time or full time

CCP ELIGIBILITY (PER OHIO DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION) Must be enrolled at WHS Must meet admission standards established by the individual college or university to show college readiness Must complete an Intent to Participate form by March 31 st

CCP COURSE SELECTION Expands educational opportunities beyond what is offered at Wickliffe High School Provides opportunities to study “in depth” those areas of special interest or need WHS Program of Studies provides two example “pathways” to complete 15 or 30 semester hours. Students will develop a specific schedule with their college counselor.

CCP: BENEFITS Allows for dual credit (high school AND college) Allows students to sample the college experience before graduation from high school Allows students to develop their independence

CCP: IS IT RIGHT FOR ME? Have I exhausted the WHS curriculum? Do I have a passion for a subject not offered at WHS? Have I prepared myself academically? Do I have the social and emotional ability to be successful on a college campus?

CCP: THINGS TO CONSIDER Athletics and extracurricular activities may be affected Communication with WHS is the responsibility of the student Increased time to travel between the high school and college campus College calendar/breaks may be different Transfer of credit: receiving college decides
