3 Who Is Our Community? Within our boundaries, we teach students: of all abilities of all backgrounds with all kinds of dreams We serve all students!

4 Where Do We Serve Our Community? District 279 is the 5 th largest district in the State serving 22,000 students at 31 sites. They include: 19 Elementary schools grades K-6 4 Junior high schools grades 7-9 3 Senior high schools grades 10-12 1 Area learning center grades 8-12 1 Transition center young adults up to age 21 1 Adult education center adults of every age 2 Early childhood centers preschool children

10 We ensure that all students succeed by providing them with the best, well-trained, professional teachers, principals and support staff We give our teachers the best data about students and help them use it

11 Good To GREAT Results Academic Achievement Minnesota Comprehensive Assessment (MCAs) scores continue to rise in math and reading with a large jump in math achievement in 2005. Basic Standards Test (BSTs) results are also improving in Math and Reading, and are above State averages and at an all time high (Reading 87% and Math 76%).

12 Good To GREAT Results Academic Achievement equal or higher average growth scores Northwest Evaluation (NWEA) results show District 279 students in grades 3-8 have equal or higher average growth scores than national averages at every grade level. higher average scores ACT results show District 279 seniors had higher average scores than the nation, and equal to Minnesota State averages.

14 Positive School Climate District attendance HIGHEST in Ten Years at 95.6% in 2005 Drop-out rate remains near its HISTORIC LOW at 1.58% in 2004 Graduation rate is 94%; 5% Higher than State

15 Good To GREAT Results Fiscal Responsibility District 279 spends more of its budget on instruction – 79.1% District 279 spends the least on administration and support operations – 20.9% Financial Involvement School-Community Accountability Liaisons – FISCAL District 279 Foundation – Financial contributions to student success

16 What Our Community Says… Community Survey Results – random sample telephone survey of 500 households: good to excellent -Majority of residents surveyed believe quality of schools are good to excellent (74%) proud of their schools -70% of all those surveyed said they were proud of their schools and would recommend them to friends

17 What Our Parents Say… Good to Excellent Parents of school-aged children rated District as Good to Excellent (91%)
