2. Journal Prompt 1: So far what good and bad effects has Pip’s fortune had on his life and his character. Give at least three specific, well developed, examples (instances or occurrences in the novel that illustrate point). OR Describe Wemmick’s dual personality. Give two specific occurrences that illustrate how he is different when at work and when at home. How does this reflect Charles Dickens’ beliefs concerning business/the law?

3. Journal Prompt 2: How is Magwitch similar/different than Miss Havisham? How could the two characters be described as doubles? (Hint: think about them in regards to Pip and Estella) OR Why doesn’t Jaggers tell Pip who is benefactor is? Why does he tell Pip that telling him this would compromise him? It is better to conform than to be different. When we believe something strongly, we should stand up for our belief no matter what the cost. We exist to benefit and serve society. Some knowledge is too dangerous to be revealed to society, thus should be kept secret. If an individual does not believe the laws of the society to be ethical or moral, he then has the right to defy these laws. Some emotions are better not felt. A group's needs are more important than an individual's needs.
