GOAL To help students develop the study skills, habits of mind and critical thinking skills that they will need in college. Students who take AP courses are given the chance to earn college credit (while still in high school) and to stand out in the college admissions process. MISD offers AP courses and exams in many subjects. Exams are administered each year in May. Score of 3 or higher can be considered for college credit. It is the responsibility of the student/parent to check with prospective colleges to see if AP scores will count for college credit. Pre-AP and AP English and Social Studies courses require summer reading Pre-AP / AP Guiding Criteria and Agreement Form

To Qualify, Students Must: Maintain a 2.75 grade point average Complete the Recommended or Distinguished Achievement Program Volunteer at least 20 hours of community service by senior year. Students may begin in the summer after their freshman year. Hours are due by the end of the 4 th six weeks Banquet is held to recognize seniors who have met all requirements Texas Scholars Program

Pays 12 hours tuition per semester at Midland College for each year that community service is completed. Students can begin hours in the summer of their junior year. Must have a 2.75 (on a 4.0 scale) on the final senior transcript. Must have 40 hours from approved agencies. Turn in hours and application to Midland College. Link for MC Legacy Scholarship

0 to 5 6 12 18 In order to be considered in the designated grade classification, the appropriate number of credits must be earned at the end of spring semester.

In addition to completing all coursework students must pass either TAKS or EOC exams depending on grade level. Students who entered 9th grade in 2011-12 and beyond must take End of Course (EOC) exams for the courses they are enrolled. English 1 (Reading and Writing Combined) English 2 (Reading and Writing Combined) Algebra 1 US History Biology Students in the class of 2014 will continue to take the TAKS as their graduation requirements.

Jan. 23 – 27: Class Presentations @ LHS January 27th: Parent Presentation @ LHS 6:30 January 29th: Class Presentations @ LFHS February 1 st : Saturday Counselor conferences LHS from 9:00-3:00 (By appointment only.) February 4-5th: Registration at LFHS. February 6th: Registration begins at LHS. Students must submit Registration Form to Science teacher. Any LFHS students wanting to make changes to their course selection prior to May 30 th must see their LFHS counselor. March 21st: Registration Deadline June 25 th : FINAL deadline for changes

You can access the 2014-2015 Course Register on the LHS website under the Registration link. Seniors should focus on college application, scholarship, etc. Juniors should try to take the ACT/SAT at least once at the end of their junior year If a student does not pass an EOC, they will be enrolled in an EOC class. Lunch for these students will be reduced to 36 minutes.
