3. The Problem: College Acceptance and Completion Rates of 1 year of College 2008

The Intervention: MESA Mentor Program  Created a mentorship program that supported students through the application process and year 1 of college.  Applied for grant money to hire a transition coordinator that would help students with the enrollment challenges the summer after they graduated and continue to check in with students frequently throughout the first year of college.

6. Results  The mentor program and transition coordinator have been significant in increasing college enrollment.  Increase from 27% to 63%  Goal for next year is 75% of students completing 1 year of college

Future Recommendations  Add fund in the grant to loan students money for books while financial aid comes through  As student population increases we need more hours for transition coordinator  Create posses on each campus for added support of incoming students  Continue to track completion of first year of college and begin to look at 4 year completion rates.
