Cloning

I.Dolly and the beginning of the cloning 1.Dolly 2.Other cloning examples II.Cloning process 1.Cloning definition 2.How does it work? III.The problem of ethics on human cloning 1.Opponents ’ opinion 2.Pro-cloning’s opinion IV.Possible evolutions

Dolly, born in 1996, was the first animal cloned from an adult cell. Dolly and Bonnie, her first-born lamb. Even cloned animals can reproduce. I.Dolly and the beginning of the cloning

The two brown mice at the bottom have been cloned from the mouse at top right in 1998. Many animals have already been cloned after Dolly, such as rabbits, pigs, donkeys, and others. Five cloned piglets, born in Virginia, in 2000, produced from an adult sow using a slightly different technique from the one that produced Dolly.

Copycat, created by scientists in Texas using a cell taken from an adult tortoiseshell female Idaho Gem, the world's first cloned mule born on May 4. He is an identical genetic copy of his brother, a champion racing mule called Taz. I.Dolly and the beginning of the cloning

Snuppy, the first cloned dog, born in 2005 in South Korea. A pair of cloned calves born in Japan in 1998. They are the second adult-animal clones. ANDi (inserted DNA spelled backwards), the first genetically modified rhesus monkey. I.Dolly and the beginning of the cloning

II. Cloning process « Somatic Cell Nuclear Transfer » or « Nuclear Transplantation »

III - The problem of ethics on human cloning Opponents ’ opinion : - diminished sense of individuality - possible abuse of cloning : * control over child genome * to prefer this practise - objectification of children

Pro-cloning ’s opinion : - “no human activity is free of accidental death” - Donate organs - Let infertile people to have a child III - The problem of ethics on human cloning

IV. Possible evolutions Cloning tissues or cells may let to cure some diseases : - Cancer - Leukemia -Damaged brain Or transplant organs : -Kidney -Lung -Liver -Heart

And you, are you ready to be cloned ?
