Purpose Statement The purpose of this paper is to address the impact of new technology on health literacy education. Comprehensive Health Promotion should be inclusive in both developed and developing counties. Currently there are geographical barriers, as well as social economic, and cultural barriers.

Objectives The role of new technology is to overcome the current barriers to health promotion education Potential Solutions Reach a Larger Target Audience Focus on Community Based Educational Programs Train the Trainers- Implement new methods and strategies to access health promotion education with social media Create a social context for online learning across cultures and generations

Objective Values & Principles Current Situation Mobile device technologies, video conferencing, and Web 2.0 applications reach a diverse audience in developed and developing countries. Approach instruction through the lens of cultural diversity. Ensure global equity with access to health information. Build self-efficacy in the technical environment. Given new technology trends in both real time and store-and-forward, social media instruction influences health literacy across cultures and borders.

Requires expertise in order to access technology Potential Abuse It is important to present information which assures credibility and represents situations accurately Bottom Up Approach Acquire information from health workers in the field who work with people in the community and know the situation on the ground

Recommendations How do we change behavior?
We must change behavior by impacting the belief system. In order to impact health literacy, Public Health Professionals have to support an infrastructure which shares a common purpose. This is accomplished by trial and error and work in the field and community. The review of the literature suggests that distance learning impacts health professionals as well as health consumers. For this reason content development of quality health information must be designed to attract health consumers who utilize new media applications.
