2. 'Decent pensions – securing the future for all' Dear Mr Hughes, I note with interest your question in Parliament to the Deputy Prime Minister on the 11 October 2011 'Will my right hon. Friend assure me that, given the really difficult economic situation that the Government inherited and the really difficult economic situation that we are grappling with at home and abroad, those in the public sector and, particularly, the private sector who have had high or obscene salaries and bonuses will be dealt with so that, in the days ahead, those with the broadest shoulders bear the burden of getting us out of this mess and those with the lowest incomes are best protected?' You must be aware that the majority of us in the teaching profession are to bear on our shoulders a disproportionally and eroded proposed pension reduction, which we will have to work longer for, pay more contributions to, and then receive less pension entitlement from, and not be protected in our retirement pension income? I copy below the joint Union proposals that are considerate to not disrupting our pupil's education or inconveniencing our MOD service families in demonstrating our strength of opposition to the Governments Teacher pension cuts.

Pension Petition and Lobby 26 October 2011 'The joint union campaign against pension cuts (involving ASCL, ATL, NAHT, NASUWT, NUT, UCAC and UCU) is taking the unprecedented step of organising a joint lobby of Parliament on Wednesday 26 October 2011. We hope at least one representative from every school and college in England and Wales will attend and demonstrate to Parliament the unity and determination of the entire profession in opposing cuts to our pensions. For the vast majority of us Wednesday 26 October will be in half term, however, this date provides an opportunity to show large scale opposition, without disrupting our pupils' education or inconveniencing the public. Giving up a day of your leave will demonstrate the strength of your opposition to the changes. This will give the Government a last chance to see sense before any further industrial action. In the few areas which are not on half term Wednesday 26th October, members are being advised to lobby MPs in the constituency outside of school time.'
