3 3 Idaho Reading Indicator (IRI) Grades K-3. Individual reading test administered three times/year. 2007-2008 was a new test and is a new baseline Scores: 3 – Benchmark 2 – Strategic 1 – Intensive On Target: –Reach the Spring Benchmark or –Increase the percentage of students meeting Benchmark (3) by 5% from Fall to Spring.

Given on computer. Used to measure adequate yearly progress (AYP) in the spring. Passing score required for graduation. –Retest opportunity offered four times each year.

32 32 NCLB and AYP The No Child Left Behind (NCLB) Act requires that all: students meet the standards for reading and math by 2014. schools demonstrate adequate yearly progress (AYP) toward achieving that goal.

35 35 NCLB and AYP Facts Sixth year held accountable for No Child Left Behind (NCLB) / Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP). 41 targets to meet proficiency benchmarks. Entire student population – or any one of the subgroups – does not meet targets, school is deemed not to have made AYP. AYP is only one measure of a school’s success.

Franklin Middle School implemented a National Junior Honor Society induction of 102 students who met the rigorous academic, leadership and citizenship criteria Over 300 high school students took concurrent enrollment courses 67 high school seniors graduated with highest honors in 2008 *We are continuing to Maximize Student Learning*

Students excelled at the regional, state and national level: Irving Middle School science students were recognized for their exemplary performance at the Science Olympiads competition Four elementary students qualified for the State Geography Bee and one qualified for the National Geography Bee A Franklin Middle School student received the Spirit of Idaho Award from Congressman Mike Crapo A Hawthorne Middle School student placed 11th in the state MATHCOUNTS competition Two students from Century High School placed seventh in a National Debate Competition A parent and teacher in the district’s Head Start program were selected for awards by the Region 10 Head Start Association *We are continuing to Maximize Student Learning*
