4. What does it mean to be a Title I School? Being a Title I school means receiving funding to supplement the school’s existing academic programs. 7. District Assessments Assessments are tests used to help teachers determine if a student is understanding the content presented in the classroom. We use the following assessments for all of our students:  MAPS (K5-3 rd )  Smarter Balanced (3 rd – 8 th ) – new state test as of 2014. 7

8. Proficiency Levels – State Test If a child does not reach a certain proficiency level when they take an assessment, we consider them for additional help from our Title I program. Proficiency Levels:  Advanced: exceeds grade level expectations  Proficient: meets grade level expectations  Basic: performs below grade level expectations  Minimal: performs far below grade level expectations Our goal (and the State’s goal) is for your student to reach at least the “Proficient” level 8

Parent’s Rights under NCLB You have a right to: Know the qualifications for you child’s teacher Know if a non-highly Qualified Teacher is placed for four or more weeks Request opportunities to meet regularly with staff for parent involvement Participate in decisions affecting your child Review and contribute to Parent Involvement Plan (part of School Improvement Plan) and Parent Compact Participate in District Advisory Council 11

13. How can I volunteer to assist my student with school needs? Join the School Improvement Team Volunteer to contact other parents regarding important school information. Volunteer in a classroom Chaperone field trips or events Talk to your neighbors and let them know what is going on at your child’s school.
