Essential Questions: What are the components of the (SPP)? How is PVAAS used as part of the calculation for the School Performance Profile (SPP)?
2
Who is responsible for creating all of this? USDOE NCLB State Board of Education Waiver for NCLB (moved from AYP to SPP) Chapter 4 Regulations PDE Systems to meet the requirements in Ch. 4
3
How are building scores calculated? (Handout) Quantitative academic score based upon a 100-point scale using: Section 1:Indicators of Academic Achievement (40%) Section 2:Indicators of Closing the Achievement Gap (10%) Section 3: Indicators of Academic Growth (PVAAS) (40%) Section 4:Other Academic Indicators (10%) Total (100%) Extra Credit (up to 4 points) for elementary
4
Section 1: “Achievement” Achievement (PSSA Percentage Prof & Adv) Math ? X 7.5% = ____ Reading? X 7.5% = ____ Science ? X 7.5% = ____ Writing ? X 7.5% = ____ GR 3 Reading ? X 10% = ____ ___________________________________ Total 40%
5
Calculating SPP – “Achievement” Achievement (PSSA Percentage Prof & Adv) – Math 94% x7.5 = 7.1 – Reading80% x7.5 = 6 – Science90% x7.5 = 6.7 – Writing89% x7.5 = 6.7 – GR 3 Reading87% x10 = 8.7 Total40 = 35.2

7
Section 2: “Closing the Achievement Gap” To calculate this measure, PDE determines the percent of students in the school who score proficient or advanced on each subject area of the PSSA. The percentage of proficient or advanced students is subtracted from 100 to arrive at the “GAP” between current achievement levels and full proficiency.
8
Closing the Achievement Gap In order to attain full credit for this measure, a school must make steady progress to close the gap by “half” within the next six years. For example: 2014: 78%2017: 84% 2019: 86% 2015: 80% 2016: 82% 2020: 88% Step 12013: 76% (Proficient & Advanced) Step 2100 – 76 = 24 (24 is the “gap”) Step 324/2 = 12 (12 is 50% of the “gap”) Step 412/6 = 2 (2% per year is the target)
9
Closing the Gap 10% 5% for “ALL” Students 5% for “historically low performing” students Students in the “historically low performing” group include: IEP, ELL, and ED (also referred to as the super sub-group) *a student can only count 1 time, even if they fall in more than one of the groups

11
Section 3: PVAAS 40% Average Growth Index (AGI) The PVAAS AGI for a school is converted to a “scale” ranging from 50 – 100 3 or higher = 100 a score of zero = 75 -3 or lower = 50
12
DACBE -3-20123 Met the Standard For Growth Did not Meet the Standard for Growth Exceeded the Standard for Growth 50 pts. 75pts. 100 pts.
13
PVAAS Calculation A school will receive a score between 50 – 100 for all 4 content areas: Indicators of Academic Growth/PVAAS Mathematics 89.00 8.9 Reading 100.00 10 Science 72.00 7.2 Writing 61.00 6.1 Total = 32.2
