What is Evidence-Based Practice? According to The National Autism Center: Evidence-Based Practices require the integration of research findings with 3 other factors: Professional judgment and data-based decision making. Values and preferences of families, including the student with ASD whenever feasible Capacity to accurately implement interventions National Autism Center

Why Use Evidence-Based Practices? According to The National Autism Center: IDEA (Individuals with Disabilities Education Improvement Act, 2004) and NCLB (No Child Left Behind Act, 2002) require that public schools use evidence-based practices to support students with Autism Spectrum Disorder. Research demonstrates that Evidence-Based Practices are in the best interest of students with ASD, and are the most likely interventions to produce positive outcomes. National Autism Center

Categorizing Evidence-Based Practices in ASD There are 4 Categories in the Strength of Evidence Classification System - Established Emerging Unestablished Ineffective/ Harmful Categories are ranked to reflect the level of quality, quantity and consistency of research findings for each intervention.
