2 PLSB – Act 1323 AELS Website to comply with § 6-17-428 Effective March 1, 2014, school hiring officials are required to check the ADE Arkansas Educator Licensure System (AELS) to determine whether the applicant has been found to have violated Standard 1 of the Code of Ethics involving sexual abuse of a student. The law defines sexual abuse of a student and also covers students who are eighteen (18) years of age but who are still enrolled in a school. 9 Minimum Annual Professional Development Requirements 5.01 Each educator employed under a basic contract with a school district shall have a professional development plan under which the employing entity provides ten (10) professional development days (a minimum of sixty (60) hours) annually.
