1 CTE LATERAL ENTRY TEACHERS All Lateral Entry Teacher will receive a Provisional License. Must complete requirements outlined by NCDPI within 3 years to obtain a clear NC teacher license.

2 What do I need to do?  Once hired, obtain North Carolina Teacher License  Work through CMS Licensure case manager to submit forms to Dept of Public Instruction in Raleigh NC  Best Practices for Licensing  Order transcripts immediately, order an extra copy for your files  Complete paperwork promptly and thoroughly Registration form Education transcripts Work experience  Own the process, get it submitted quickly  Check with case manager regularly

3 How long will it take to get my provisional license  6-12 weeks after CMS submits paperwork you will receive a NC Provisional Teaching License  This will be mailed to your home address

4 Once you receive your License  LICENSE – Review & understand type of license you have been issued  LETTER – Understand requirements outlined in the letter accompanying the License  Scan a copy and keep original in safe place  Contact CTE Coordinator – set up appointment to review License and Letter  Effective date vs. Issue date

5 3 Year Lateral Entry Licensing Options CTE’s Lateral Teacher Assistance Program (LTAP), in partnership with CPCC utilizes existing Professional Development classes within the district and CPCC. LTAP is designed to meet licensure competencies under the NC Professional Teacher Standards. LTAP www.ralc.us Alternative path to obtain NC license. RALC will review past experience/education and create a plan of study. RALC Affiliate with a North Carolina approved university that offers an education program in your area of study. They will outline courses necessary to obtain clear license. Approved NC University Choose 1 of the following – NOT interchangeable

7 Do I need to start Year 1?  YES - ALL PLANS REQUIRE ANNUAL PROGRESS  MAP OUT A 3 YEAR COMPLETION PLAN  CONSIDER THE FOLLOWING:  WHEN ARE CLASSES OFFERED  WHAT IS THE COST OF TUITION  ARE SUMMER CLASSES OFFERED  ARE YOU SEEKING A MASTERS

8 Getting started  Make your decision and get started. You must show progress during each year including year 1.  Inform CMS Licensure Case Manager of the path you have chosen. Submit evidence of annual progress to Licensure at the end of each school year

9 Avoid licensing trouble?  Be careful of advice from others. Know what’s required for you  Putting it off – put off cleaning your closet but don't ignore your license!  If you don’t get an answer, keep asking. OWN IT
