Tornados form when warm air and cool air mix Rising air may start to spin = funnel cloud Funnel cloud touches ground= Tornado Not all thunderstorms form tornados

Cylinder shaped Long, skinny Short, fat Some people say it looks like head of anteater Can be a few ft. across or as long as a mile

White tornadoes occur when storm is over dust

Red tornadoes occur when storm is over red dirt

Black tornadoes occur when storm is over really dark brown dirt

Brown tornadoes occur when storm is over brown dirt

We issue two main warnings: Tornado watch and Tornado warning

Area where tornadoes occur most often Includes N. Dakota, S. Dakota, Nebraska, Colorado, Iowa, Minnesota, Kansas, Missouri, Texas, Oklahoma, Louisiana, and Arkansas

Waterspouts are tornadoes over water They can suck up aquatic animals including fish

Tornadoes can smash cars, flatten homes, uproot trees Sometimes people running for shelter suddenly find themselves naked Once locomotive train was pushed 150 ft. (over 45 tons & brakes on) Cows fly through air Chickens can get deplumed
