History (School of Humanities) How Second-Year Works (see pp.3-7) You will experience a range of teaching and assessment methods –Colloquium modules (see p.8) –Lecture modules (see p.14) You will learn about a wider range of places, time periods and styles of doing history You will have much more choice over the topics you study But we lay down a basic set of rules you must follow

History (School of Humanities) The Basic Rules (see p.5) A range of teaching and assessment methods –You must take 1 colloquium module –You must take 4 lecture modules 3 lecture modules will have coursework plus an exam 1 lecture module will be totally continuous assessment A range of time periods –You must take 1 lecture module from each of: Medieval; Early Modern; and Modern

History (School of Humanities) What you need to do next: colloquia Read the descriptions of the colloquia Fill out the Colloquium Allocation Form, stating your preferences from 1-10 Submit the Form to the History Secretary by this WEDNESDAY at 5pm Check the departmental notice boards or website on FRIDAY to see which colloquium you have got Semester 1 colloquia start on Tuesday 15 th Sept. at 5pm Semester 2 colloquia start on Tuesday 19 th Jan.

History (School of Humanities) What you need to do next: lectures Most lectures start TOMORROW (but Medieval Europe starts TODAY, 4pm AC202) This week, go to all the lectures you’re interested in On Friday, you’ll know how many lectures to take this semester and next Next week, go to the appropriate number of lecture modules (either 1, or 3)

History (School of Humanities) Registration Once you have been allocated to a colloquium, and chosen your lecture modules: Register your choices with the University, using the online registration system You won’t be able to access Blackboard until you do this You can change your mind until September 30 th There is another opportunity to change your mind (about semester 2 lecture modules) in January
