9. Monitoring Work  Subject Leaders will be checking that this is being done fairly and for everyone.  Progress Leaders will be looking at work from time to time.  Tutors will check planners. will check all this is happening from time to time.  The Senior Leadership Team will check all this is happening from time to time. You will find stickers in your child’s books/files to say that this has happened.

10. Year Group Monitoring  Each Year Group will be monitored in detail.  During this time we will be looking at all aspects of students’ work - attendance, punctuality, behaviour, attitude.

Through liaison with subject teachers who know their students well, ascertain the potential – consistency and high expectations are fundamental to success. 12. Tracking Year 10 Students’ progress will be tracked using our Assessment, Recording and Reporting System. Students will be formally assessed 5 times during the year in each subject. Students’ current performance grades will be entered into the system 3 times during the course of the year. The system will allow us to identify underachievement by comparing target and current performance grades. If this occurs, we will address it instantly by inviting the student and his/her parents for interview.

13. The purpose of the Year 10 mentoring scheme is to support the pastoral and academic development of students in the year group. The intention is to build on the current good practice and to work in conjunction with the whole school mentoring and monitoring strategy. 15. Form tutors will monitor the attendance, behaviour and achievement of students in their form class. Referrals will be made to the Progress Leader. Student’s achievement in each subjects will be highlighted via a Snapshot Survey and consideration of CP1 data. Year 10 Mentoring

17. Katie Lloyd (Learning Coach). Her role is to raise achievement and aspirations by identifying and removing barriers to learning. She will support 14 students to maximise their learning potential and work closely with the Key Worker. Nichola Morgan (Key Worker). Her role is to support the student by monitoring and reviewing their progress. She may refer to other services and deals with a range of social, emotional and behavioural issues. Year 10 Mentoring

19. Coursework We need to encourage all students to produce the very best pieces of coursework that they can. Good quality coursework can boost students’ confidence going into the final examinations. A majority of subjects now carry out their coursework as controlled assessments.

20. English All GCSE students will study English Literature & Language. Controlled Assessment – 20-24 th September 2010 November 29 th – December 10 th 2010 March 29 th – April 8 th 2011 Students will sit English Literature External Exam – 10 th June 2011 –

21. Maths All GCSE students will have the opportunity to gain 2 GCSE’s. One GCSE at the end of Year 10 & another at the end of Year 11. Students will sit two papers – Monday, 13 th June 2011. Tuesday, 21 st June 2011.

22. Science Revision classes are available: Chemistry every Wednesday from October 20 th. Physics every Thursday from October 14 th. Students will sit their Science modules on November 11 th 2010 & 2 nd March 2011

23. Child Development Task is set by the WJEC and is worth 30% of the final mark. Students will need to investigate and produce a child study focusing on a child’s development. It must be completed in 15 hours. It will start in January 2011 and must be completed by June 2011.

24. Attendance Good attendance is essential for your child to succeed. The Compact Target is 95%+. Students with good attendance :  Achieve better examination results.  Have better career prospects.
