Project Dual Credit Funding through the Ohio Department of Education Managed by the Western Buckeye Educational Service Center on behalf of the Region 1 Regional Advisory Council in Mathematics, Science, and Foreign Languages Project Dual Credit
2
What is Project Dual Credit? A project that promotes partnerships between school districts and institutions of higher education... and opportunities for high school students to earn both college and high school credit in their high school classrooms. to provide high-quality coursework and instruction in advanced mathematics, laboratory science, and foreign language...
3
How is this accomplished? The project provides funding for high-quality professional development for participating teachers in math, science, and foreign languages. Funds may also cover course expenses, including college-level textbook and instructional materials or college tuition.
4
Each college or university sets specific requirements for dual credit courses. The professor or designee ensures that the course has the same content, pace, and level of difficulty as it does when offered to college or university undergraduates.
5
Dual credit courses are taught by high school teachers who have an advanced degree in mathematics, science, or foreign languages and/or experience in the discipline. Who teaches a dual credit course? These teachers partner with the cooperating college or university professor for training, course planning, and mentoring.
6
High school students who qualify may enroll in a dual credit course in a participating school. Colleges and universities would establish qualifications for enrollment in a dual credit course, such as placement tests. Who may enroll? High school staff could also work in tandem with the institution to determine student participation.
7
Grades, Credits, and Transcripts? The grade is given according to established criteria, so the same grade appears on both high school and college or university transcripts. If a high school student transfers to another college or university after graduating, the student must verify the successful transfer of the dual credit course to the new college or university.
