5 The Wampanoag’s Shelter They lived in houses called weetus. When it was warm they lived in small, round weetus. Summer weetus were made of sticks covered with grass.

6 The Wampanoag’s Shelter When it was cold they lived in big, long weetus. Winter weetus were made of sticks covered with bark.

7 The Wampanoag’s Clothes Their clothes were made from the skin of the animals they hunted. In summer the ladies wore skirts and a top with only one shoulder covered. In winter they wore pants, long shirts, moccasins, and a wrapped outer garment.

8 Arts and Crafts They are famous for pottery made out of different colored clay from the local riverbanks. They made canoes called “mishoon” dug out of burned tree trunks. They also made beautiful baskets.

9 Wampanoag’s Today Wampanoags still live in Massachusetts and Rhode Island. They still practice many of their traditions.
