1. Wetlands Loss in Coastal Louisiana By the year 2050:  600 square miles of marsh will be lost  400 square miles of swamp will be lost  1,000 square miles of wetlands will become open water.  The nation will lose an area of wetland that is nearly the size of Rhode Island
