2. Summary – March of the Penguins  For thousands of years, Emperor penguins have participated in an incredible journey across the ice deserts of the Antarctic. They march single file from the ocean to partake in an intricate mating ritual. Once mates have paired, the female lays a single egg and then returns to the ocean to find the food she has gone months without. The male penguin stays behind in the harshest of conditions protecting the egg until it is ready to hatch. The mother penguin must return immediately after the baby penguin emerges; she will provide the nourishment the baby needs to survive. It is now the father penguins turn to return to the ocean to find food.
