Public safety and homeland security organizations have access to and know how to use geospatial technology for preparedness, mitigation, response and recovery.

To advance the public safety and homeland security communities in data interoperability, information sharing, and connectivity through geospatial technology, in support of local and national preparedness goals.

1,136 public safety practitioners reached for in-person education & training on GIS This education and training was held regionally and covered 23 states Our national practitioner network defines annual training priorities: ◦ Interdisciplinary regional workshops on information sharing ◦ Robust virtual collaboration & resource portal ◦ Technical Assistance to develop & implement regional information sharing projects

4 Interdisciplinary & multi-state workshops complete 410+ practitioners participated Participants represented 11 different states 82% represented local, county, tribal, or state government 85% reported that they gained a clear vision for the next steps to implement new GIS capabilities in their agencies.

Hosted 12 fire/ems workshops in 2009-2010 ◦ 6 regions, 1 workshop held in each region each year 662 practitioners participated in workshops Highlight best practices in GIS for fire & EMS Identify common challenges & capability gaps Facilitated by Regional Leadership Teams ◦ Chief Officers, Firefighters, EMS, Fire GIS Managers
