2 c What is the JIS?  The Washington State Judicial Information System (JIS) is the primary information system for courts, serving as the statewide clearinghouse for criminal history information including protection-type orders and outstanding warrants.  The Judicial Information System is a suite of applications that facilitate the adjudication of cases in Washington courts.

3 c Judicial Information System Committee Rule 1 A statewide judicial information system to be developed. [effective 1976] Judicial Information System Committee Rule 18 Specifies which records are added to JIS. [effective 1994, amended 2001] RCW 26.50.160 To prevent competing protection orders and assist courts when issuing orders the JIS database shall include names of parties in specified actions and criminal history. 11 c From 1977 until 1994, SCOMIS was the case management system for superior courts and JIS was for district/municipal courts. In 1994 superior courts began using JIS for statewide offender history and accounting. In 1997 superior courts began using JIS for cases involving protection-type orders. SCOMIS JIS
