What is IRONY? –a literary term referring to how a person, situation, statement, or circumstance is not as would actually seem. –It violates the expectations of the character, reader, or audience. –It is a key tactic of the satirist.

Situational –The people in Emerald City believe the Wizard to have been a powerful deity, only to discover he was a bumbling eccentric old man.
