1. FEBRUARY 17, 2012 ---- Several new eagles were seen in a corn field across the main road from Larry and Lucy’s nest. Lucy and Larry watched them from a tree close to the nest.

2. From the valley behind the nest, we could see the main road and one eagle sitting high in a tree. There were 2-3 eagles sitting in the trees across the road near the bridge.

3. We counted 8 eagles. Four were on the ground, the others were in trees or flying around. Two were mature bald eagles and appeared to be a pair because they stayed close to each other while they ate. An immature eagle is seen flying to a tree near the trout stream.

4. When we stopped along the main road we could see 4 eagles in the corn field. It looked like they were eating something on the ground. They would raise their heads and look around, but most of the time their heads were down. Sometimes an eagle would fly from the trees and land in the field.

5. This is a female eagle, who flew around the field and then landed very close to the male eagle, who had been eating. They stayed close to each other, while the two other eagles stayed several feet away We couldn’t see what they were eating. Maybe it was a dead deer or wild turkey?

6. The male eagle had blood all over his beak and neck! They did not fight over the food. The other eagles waited patiently for them to finish so they could have their turn.

7. There were immature eagles in the trees close to the trout stream that flows beside the farm buildings. We decided to look around. They were flying around the farm buildings, so we drove on the back road to see how many more we could find.

8. We stopped near the farm road at the mailbox and looked around. To our surprise, there were two mature eagles in the trees close to the road, right above our heads! One eagle flew away, but one stayed on this branch a few minutes longer.

9. The eagle looked all around and stared at all the activity down in the corn field. But it wasn’t long before he decided to join his mate and flew off the branch, and flew over the house. We may have seen 13 or more eagles! We saw one eagle in the valley behind the nest, Lucy and Larry near the nest, four on the ground in the corn field, and four in the trees near the field, and the pair near the mailbox. They kept moving around, flying back and forth between the field and the trees. It is easy to see why Lucy was so upset.

10. The eagle flew way and we drove home. So Friday February 17 was a very exciting day for Lucy and Larry! We may never see that many eagles again, so close to Lucy and Larry’s nest. When the food is gone, they will leave. Then Lucy and Larry will be happy again.
