Quality of applications and Admissions is UP Appeal to mainstream students is UP For Fall, 2007 class, 36.6% of applicants were from local public school programs; for Fall 2009 class, it was 48.6% Appeal to D/HH students who are qualified for many public post-secondary institutions is UP For Fall, 2007 class, 25.8% of applicants had ACT composite scores of 18 or above; for Fall 2009 class, it was 33.8%, for fall 2010 Enrollment of non-signers is UP; more than doubled from 2009(47 new signers this year)

Student retention and movement towards graduation is UP Overall undergraduate enrollment is UP Undergraduate enrollment in 2008 was 946; we are projecting 1125 for Fall, 2010 Mid-year retention for First Time Freshman is UP Historic average was 80%; Spring 2010 was 96% Credits earned by First Time Freshmen is UP In Fall 2006, average number of credits earned by a first time freshman was 6.6; in Fall 2009, it was 10.9 Retention (fall to fall) into the second year is UP Historic average was 60%; 2009 was 77% Entrance to a major during the Junior year is UP The historic average fo the percentage of third year students who are in a major was 34%; in Spring, 2010, it was 65% for the 2007 cohort of first time freshmen Retention of historically under represented students is UP The three year average for Aisian, Black and Hispanic/Latino students is 60%, in fall 2009 it was 75%

Academic Climate is UP according to the National Survey of Student Engagement Freshman find Gallaudet a MORE academically challenging environment In 2005, Gallaudet Freshmen score the University at 50.5 out of 85 points; in 2009, Freshman scored Gallaudet at 55.6 In 2010, the Carnegie class comparion group average was only 53.6 Freshman find learning at Gallaudet to be MORE active and collaborative In 2005, Gallaudet Freshmen score the University at 42.1 out of 85 points; in 2009, Freshmen scored Gallaudet at 49.6 In 2010, the Carnegie class comparison group average was only 44.3

Freshmen interact MORE with faculty In 2005, Gallaudet Freshmen score the University at 33.5 out of 85 points; in 2009, Freshmen scored Gallaudet at 42.9 In 2010, the Carnegie class comparison group average was only 35.5 Freshmen find Gallaudet to be a MORE enriching educational experience In 2005, Gallaudet Freshmen score the University at 25.7 out of 85 points; in 2009, Freshmen scored Gallaudet at 27.3 In 2010, the Carnegie class comparison group average was 27.0

Employment Opportunities on Campus Gallaudet offers a wide range of job opportunities within the campus such as Office Employment, Service Learning Projects, and Volunteering. While some are not directly tied with a student’s major, employment experience in general prepares you with time management, discipline, different styles of management, and multiple work ethics. Gallaudet also offers over 40 student organizations where students can grow their leadership, organization, and conflict-resolution skills. Many of these organizations involve diverse community participation which is necessary to succeed in our diverse workforce in America. All of these skills/tools can be carried into their careers.

Career Preparation Opportunities Student Body Government- Government, Business Administration, Public Speaking, and or Communication Studies majors. Towerclock (Yearbook)- Graphic Design, English, Photography, and or Business Administration majors. Bison TV- Theatre, Business Administration, English, and Art majors. Resident Advisor- Psychology, Communication Studies, and Sociology majors. These are opportunities to build experiences that are tied with students’ career interests and strengthen their resume. Students can take advantage of this paid employment.

Classroom without walls Access to the monuments, museum, and memorials in our backyard provides a wealth of history and education Out of 229 internship placements in 2009, 15% of interns were assigned to the federal government 74% of all seniors complete at least one internship prior to graduation, much higher than the national average of 52% (GRI, 2009) 96% of our graduates either find employment or continue their education within a year (89% are employed and 7% are in graduate school)(GRI, 2009)

Exciting Internships this past year Krista Brown does her Practice Teaching at Sidwell Friends (See Video) Taiyabah Naeem did two internships, one at University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine at Children’s Hospital at Philadelphia and at Stanford University at Palo Alto, California Joseph Lewis did his internship on Capitol Hill working with Senator Tom Harkin (D-Iowa) and in the Office of Presidential Correspondence
