Block Vs. Trimester Schedules Block= 4 classes 2 semesters 8 credits Each class = 1 credit Classes last 81 minutes Classes last 18 weeks Trimester= 5 classes 3 trimesters 7.5 credits Each class =.5 credit More options Classes last 72 minutes Core Classes last 24 weeks

State Graduation Requirements 4 credits of English Language Arts 3 credits of Science (Biology, Physics or Chemistry, plus 1 Additional science credit) 3 credits of Social Studies (.5 Civics,.5 Econ., 1 credit US History, 1 credit World History) 4 credits of Math (Algebra I, Algebra II, Geometry, plus 1 math during senior year) ½ credit of Health ½ credit of Physical Education ½ credit of Consumers Education 2 credits of Voc/ Art/ Foreign Lang. 12 ½ Electives Must have 27 ½ credits to graduate

Grade Point Average Freshmen Year- Most important in regards to grade point average A= 4 points B= 3 points C= 2 points D=1 point As students take more classes, their grade point average becomes harder to raise. Important to do well freshmen year!!!

Failing Classes Students must meet all graduation requirements If students fail a required course, they will need to retake this course as soon as possible. Students will be retained as freshmen if they do no pass at least 5 credits. Students can fail no more than 2.5 credits if they plan on graduating with their class.

Career Pathways Career Pathways are broad groupings of careers that share similar characteristics Career Pathways provide a useful framework to aid students in making meaningful connections to the working world Six Career Pathways: Arts & Communication Business, Management, Marketing & Technology Engineering/Manufacturing & Industrial Technology Health Sciences Human Services Natural Resources & Agriscience

Career Pathways Cont’d Career Cruising- Tool for students to identify their career pathway: Based on interest inventory High School Classes aligned with Career Pathway Educational Development Plan (EDP): Use this plan to map out high school courses. Ultimate goal: Student identifies career pathway before college= Saving $$$

Study Habits Transition to high school may be difficult Identify and practice good study habits: Time Management- Block off study time. Prioritize assignments. Review weekly. Begin preparing early- Pay attention during class. Do homework assignments. Use acronyms or images to help you remember material. (Roy G. Biv.= red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo, violet) Flash Cards! Have friend or family member quiz you. Be Organized- have a separate folder for each class. http://www.studygs.net/

Freshmen Orientation August 30 Students will get their schedules and lockers Tour of the Building by National Honor Society students * Please make any schedule changes by June 15 th.
