What is MAP-Works? A tool used to achieve 88% fall to fall retention of first time freshmen… one student at a time Primarily a survey tool that identifies students struggling academically and/or socially for early intervention by key staff Also an excellent communication and data collection tool Provides students with instant feedback via a printable student report 88@1

Activity Activity = Contact, Note, Referral, Appointment, or Student Task Filter list by activity type Create a new activity with one click View list of activities Link a related activity to an existing activity

Contact – records all types of communication or attempted communication with a student Note – non-actionable information about a student that may be relevant to you or other staff working with a student Referral – action required –If assigned a referral you should take and record action (new referral, note, close) Types of Activity

Allow faculty/staff to record interaction with a student (i.e., in-person meeting, phone conversation, email received from student, etc.) Contacts

Interactive contacts include a student response and remove a student from the priority list Important to record both interactive and non-interactive contacts so other direct connects can view 88@1

Allow faculty/staff to put a notation on a student’s record. Notes are typically informational in nature and are generally not time sensitive Care list information entered as notes All notes may be public, which means viewable by direct connects Notes

Creating a Referral Choose a referral category (same categories for appointments and contacts)

Assign to lists direct connects Status should be closed after contact with the student Students should not be notified of referral 88@1

Addressing Referrals If assigned a referral you should note your actions such as – Attempt to communicate (non-interactive contact) – Record communication (contact) – Refer the student to another direct connect – Close the referral 88@1

An indicator of the student’s risk for attrition or poor academic performance. Each student is categorized into one of four groups: – Green – Yellow – Red – Red X2 What is a Risk Indicator? 88@1

Outreach with At-Risk Students Red indicators need immediate attention from Shannon, Yvonne, Venus, Coaches and Sue J. may require referral to other direct connects Yellow, especially those with intent to leave should be priority for SA staff Early alerts will be referrals by Sue J to appropriate direct connect 88@1

Commitment to MAP-Works 15 minutes each day Use the activity features to inform others Address referrals (which will include early alerts) in a timely manner and close them Encourage students to take all three surveys and review their student reports 88@1
