Biography: Mathew Bell 2 nd semester freshmen EE major. was considering physics after I went to a lecture on dark matter, but this class leads me to believe I’ll stick to EE. The cool robot stuff that Dr. Schwartz showed us last time especially. Had a somewhat limited experience with this kind of stuff in high school, and this class was an extension. Enjoyed taking apart iPod and Wiimote and discussions on their operation. First experience with programming of any kind, other than gimmicks on my calculator.

This course made me want to build interesting things and make robots UF plans: get involved in projects at UF Maybe improve upon the design of the bottle opening robot so I can have one of my own. Career goal: start own company and work from home. That way I can have my own sleep schedule and be around my kids a lot, and only work on things I want to. Advice: take late classes, participate in intramurals, go to sporting events, do the dishes before mold starts growing on them, and get rid of stupid Gen Ed requirements as soon as possible so you can get to something you like.

Biography: Seth Goldberg 2 nd semester freshmen I was originally a Chemical Engineering major but decided that I am no longer intrigued by chemistry. Changed my major to Computer Engineering Software (CEN) This class opened me up to the electrical world which led to a change to a more electrical based major Could still possibly go into EE or CE hardware Always wanted to take apart an iPod Started learning Java this semester so the robot programming was less strange to me since it was originally written in C++

This course made me want to use programming to create something that we can physically interact with, such as machines (robots) UF plans: get involved in computer/electrical projects at UF Join the UF Programming Team and participate in competitions Career goal: become a software engineer and maybe create an operating system Own the company for the OS and be able to put out other interesting projects under it Advice: Live on campus and try to get many of the general education and Gordon Rule classes out of the way from high school AP/IB credit, try to schedule classes back to back because you will waste time during hour or two long breaks, join honors societies/clubs, maybe not fraternities

Problem Solving: Maze Navigation Used sensors: front/right/left IR sensor, and the light sensor. – Took some time to find the ideal tolerances for the sensors. – Getting the sound to play proved trickier than it should have been. Stupid problems: mixed up greater than and less than signs. Identifying which sensor corresponded to which number on the screen thing.

Team Conclusions We gained hands on experience with robotics and journeyed through the world of electrical and computer engineering and received advice from upper division engineering professors on how to get more involved with engineering at UF. Our advice to future generations is to get as much hands on experience as possible and explore all that UF has to offer.
