You will use a two-legged Grade T (80) chain in a choke hitch on a square load at an angle of 60 degrees. The weight of the load is 1750kg. What’s the smallest diameter slings you need to use? First, calculate the WLL. WLL = load ÷ angle factor ÷ reeve factor WLL = 1750 ÷ 1.73 x 0.75 WLL = 1348.7kg Now we can work out the diameter of the chain sling. Use the reverse “rule of thumb” formula for Grade T (80). Diameter = √(WLL ÷ 32) D = √(1348.7 ÷ 32) D = √42.14 D = 6.49mm (round up) D = 7mm marker Click for answer
