3 Many of the pharaohs had Nubian ancestry Accepted without prejudice as part of the Egyptian population As time goes on, clearly Egypt sees Nubia as a threat and a place to acquire. Seen Egypt building massive fortresses and walls in its south

6 Kingdom of Kush The first major group to rival the Egyptians for control of the Nile was known as the Kingdom of Kush by the Egyptians Located at the third Cataract A bend in the Nile allowed for a large fertile flood plain

7 During the Egyptian Middle Kingdom and the Second Intermediate period, the Nubians were able to reclaim the land lost. The Egyptian soldiers at some of the fortresses actually changed their allegiance to the Nubians.

8 During the second Intermediate Period in Egypt, the Kush are said to have fought with the Hykos against Egypt. This is the first evidence we have of the Nubians entering Egypt and attacking it

9 Archeology digs have shown that the Nubians conquered areas in Egypt and brought back souvenirs

10 The Nubians worked with the Hykos to try to divide Egypt amongst themselves. This Can be seen on the Stele

11 this attempt failed and the Egyptian rulers in Thebes were able to reestablish centraliz ed government, creating Egypt’s New Kingdom.
