Manzanita Elementary School District Annual Goals 2011/12 Mid— year Report Strategy #1 - Staff, parent and community development will be provided in the topics of innovative approaches and the integration of technology in the core curriculum, physical education, health and fine arts to ensure all students meet or exceed academic standards. Strategy #2 – We will collaborate with parents, staff and community to ensure MES remains a fiscally solvent district that sustains current levels of services and programs. Strategy #3 – We will remain a safe and caring environment in which we will develop, implement and assess means to equip all students to be healthy, reflective, self-directed, and confident learners Mid-year report on progress towards accomplishing the District’s 2011- 2012 Annual Goals and Strategic Plan. There are 18 Specific Results targeted to be completed by June 2014, of which, 6 are to be completed by June 2012

Strategy #1 Staff, parent and community development will be provided in the topics of innovative approaches and the integration of technology in the core curriculum, physical education, health and fine arts to ensure all students meet or exceed academic standards. 1.We will develop a reading support program, including a parental training component, to support those students achieving below the proficiency level. Several reading support programs currently exist and provide reading support for students achieving below the proficiency level: a.Power reading- One-on-one levelized reading tutoring b.Accelerated reading – levelized library books c.Teacher directed small group support d.Read Naturally - fluency and comprehension support e.Rosetta Stone-computerized language support f.A paired reading program was developed focused on training and support parents with students in their daily reading. It was implemented as a workshop in the beginning of the with the Summer Reading Program.

Strategy #1 Staff, parent and community development will be provided in the topics of innovative approaches and the integration of technology in the core curriculum, physical education, health and fine arts to ensure all students meet or exceed academic standards. 1.We will develop a reading support program, including a parental training component, to support those students achieving below the proficiency level (continued). g.2011/12 - Training was provided to all interested parents in how to be come a Barton Tutor. 1.The Barton Spelling and Reading Program is a one-on-one tutoring program focused on dyslexic/high-risk students stuggling in reading and spelling. 2.Teachers, instructional aides, and parent/community volunteers are currently supporting 17 students.

(e.g. meeting with parents of 2-3 year olds to foster readiness for kindergarten). On 1/10/11 a meeting was held with Mr. Roberts and Mrs. Dempsey to explore ways to accomplish specific result. Currently: A mandatory May parent meeting is held with parents of all incoming Kindergarten students. Focus is on the next 5 months preparation of what parents can do to increase attentiveness and promote reading readiness. Song audio CD and phonemic awareness DVD given to all parents. In past have distributed (95) First-5 support packets on supporting parents on children ages 2-4.

Some staff and parents trained in Conscious Discipline in 2010/11; entire teaching and severla instructional aides were trained 2011/12. Staff book club on book Autism –How Children With Autism Learn. 1/2011 1/13/2011 – A meeting was held with Mr. Roberts, Mrs. Dempsey and Mrs. Sonia Ceballos, Migrant Ed. Rep. to Manzanita. She stated that Migrant Ed. Would love to partner-up with Manzanita and will ask the BC Migrant 3-5 pre- school coordinator and be involved with the next meeting. MES is in the process of being licensed for Pre-K. Mrs. Dempsey completed CPR and First Aid for child/adult.

To support our non-proficient readers, we will tap into local resources such as Quota Club and recruit them to become reading partners during the After School Program. #3 Currently, AVID plus students are supporting non- proficient students to become proficient readers. Recommend exploring our own student resources with training and including the following students: –After School Students –GATE –CJSF Several teacher will attend a week long training in Assessing and Teaching Students with Dyslexia during the summer of 2011. Training was provided to all interested parents in how to be come a Barton Tutor. a.Teachers, instructional aides, and parent/community volunteers are currently supporting 17 students.

We will provide training, support and time for staff to increase their technological skills through collaboration and coaching. o Tech training is provided for by administration to all staff interested through Butte County CTAP Training.
