IDEA Advisory Special Education 2009-2010 Roland-Grise Middle School Auditorium August 21, 2009

DRAFT IEPs Please disregard the guidelines for DRAFT IEPs that were provided to you in November 2007 and February 2008 and replace it with the following guideline. The following guideline regarding the use of the DRAFT IEP is intended to support a productive IEP Team meeting.

DRAFT IEPs Parents should be provided a copy of the DRAFT IEP prior to the meeting so that they have an opportunity to prepare for the meeting and are better able to engage in a full discussion during the meeting. You may want to ask the parents to submit any ideas, comments, or changes that they would like to see included on the IEP.

DRAFT IEPs Revisions made to the DRAFT IEP during the course of the meeting should be recorded on the document maintained by the meeting recorder. Parents should be given a copy of the recorder’s document at the conclusion of the meeting. Parents may keep the copy on which they've made notes.

DRAFT IEPs The revisions made to the DRAFT IEP during the meeting are the IEP in effect and must be placed in Module 2 of the student’s official educational record. The changes are then recorded in Goalview. Within ten days of the meeting, the FINAL IEP must be provided to the parent as Prior Written Notice of our service proposal.

DRAFT IEPs A copy of the FINAL IEP version must be placed in Module 2 of the student’s official educational record, replacing the edited DRAFT IEP.

DRAFT IEPs Any discrepancies or disagreements between the marked up DRAFT IEP and the FINAL IEP can be resolved through the IEP Amendment process or by reconvening the IEP meeting
