1. On the slip of paper that I have provided, tell me three things that you know about waves. It can be a type of wave, how we use waves, or a part of a wave, or anything else that you may know. Be prepared to share at least one of your items.

8. Let’s do some mental imaging: 1. Everyone look at the back wall. 2. Close your eyes and imagine that you are standing on a beach, in the waves, enjoying yourselves. 3. Now, imagine that someone yells “RUN”. You open your eyes and there is a HUGE wave coming (think Tsunami). 4. Why is everyone so afraid?

9. One-pager Activity We do a one-pager when we want to organize or summarize information that we are learning. 1. Using a marker, draw a border around your paper(about a half inch from the sides, top, bottom). 2. Underneath the top border, write the title for your one-pager. Our title is “Effect of Amplitude on Wave Strength”. 3. In each side of the border, use a marker(s) to write 2 words that you associate with parts of a wave and amplitude (can be synonyms for height). Your total should be at least 8 associated words. 4. Underneath the title, use the yarn to make a wave (glue it on). Hint: lay it out first, then use glue stick to mimic the wave, then attach yarn. 5. Draw a dotted line through the wave to represent the “rest position”. Label it. 6. Label the parts of the wave. Label amplitude, crest, and trough. 7. Make sure to draw an arrow representing the amplitude from the “rest position” to a crest and trough. 8. Underneath your labeled wave, describe how your wave represents amplitude and strength of a wave. Example: “This wave has ___________ amplitude because it has __________ crests and troughs and, because amplitude is represented by the height of the wave, this wave has ______ strength.” 9. Share with the class (if time). If not, glue on page ___ of your inb to share later and to use for how pitch affects the wave.
