3. Supreme Court The Supreme Court was built in 1935 in Washington, D.C. The court was designed by Cass Gilbert. The Supreme Court represents equals justice under law. The court cost less than $9,740,000. When the Capitol moved to Philadelphia in 1790, the Court moved first into Independence Hall and later to City Hall. By Bella and Alana

4. White House The White House was built in Washington D.C. and was completed in 1800. The presidents live in the White house. George Washington was the only president who never lived in the White House. At the White House there is even a special party just for children. By Joseph and Richard

5. The Washington Monument The Washington monument is located in Washington, D.C. It was completed on July, 4, 1848, and was built by Robert Mills. It is a symbol that represents George Washington, our first president. Today, more than one million people ride the elevator each year to tour the Washington Monument. Altogether it took one hundred years and one hundred twenty million dollars to finish the Washington Monument. By Maddie and Hoffmann

6. The Statue of Liberty is located in New York near Ellis Island. It was a present from the French in1885. The Statue of Liberty is a symbol of freedom. It is 151 feet tall and 305 feet tall at the base. It is made of copper sheets with iron framework. by Georgia and Mandy The Statue of Liberty

7. Pledge of Allegiance In 1892 James Upham wrote the Pledge of Allegiance in Boston, Massachusetts. It shows that we are proud to be and an American citizen. 8. Star Spangled Banner Francis Scott Key was born in Coroll County, Maryland. The National Anthem honors our flag. Francis Scott Key was in the war in 1812. In 1931, it officially became our National Anthem. By Kai and Jack M.

9. The Lincoln Memorial It was built from 1914 to 1922 in Washington D.C. Henry Bacon designed the building and Daniel French sculpted. Lincoln saved slaves and kept America together as a country. May 30th, 1922 more than 50,000 people met at the new Lincoln Memorial. The Memorial is a famous building in the park of Washington D.C. By Avery and Ella

10. The Liberty Bell John Pass and John Stowe’s names are on the bell and it was made in 1752. The bell means FREEDOM in the united states The bell is 2,000 pounds. It is made of copper[70%] and tin [25%]. Shortly after the bell’s arrival in Philadelphia the bell cracked. By Sean and Jacob S.

The Declaration of Independence Congress argued for the independence of the thirteen colonies from Great Britain on June,1776, Richard Henry Lee called for the writing of an official statement of independence. The Declaration of Independence is important to our country because it was the first to say the United States of America was a nation. The Declaration of Independence represents our freedom and the official first step toward the separation of the thirteen colonies from the control of Great Britain. The Declaration of Independence is on public display at the Rotunda of the National Archives. Thomas Jefferson wrote feverishly with his quill, sometimes standing up! By JackP and T.J.

12. The Capital Building The iron dome has a statue of a woman on top. The height of the capital building from the baseline on the east front to the top of the statue is 287.5 feet. The capital was built in Washington D.C. in 1800. It was designed by William Thornton. The U.S. capital building is in the capital of our country. by Taylor and Liam

13. American Flag Betsy Ross (1752-1836) was the American woman who made the flag. In 1777 there were 13 stars and 13 stripes on the flag. The stars stand for heaven and the stripes stand for light. The United States flag is the best known symbol of America. By Natalie and Shelby

14. Mount Rushmore Created in 1941 by Gutzon Borglum in the Black Hills of South Dakota. Represents the growth of the US and honors the presidents George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Theodore Roosevelt and Abraham Lincoln. The Faces are 60 feet high and originally the torsos were supposed to be included in the sculpture. Borglum died before finishing Roosevelt’s head, so his son finished the sculpture. By Ms. Lauren
