“Mightiest Aquatic Predator” The Liopleurodon was considered the mightiest aquatic predator of all time. It’s long, slender body allowed it to coast discretely through shallow seas during the late Jurassic Period. The Liopleurodon enabled itself to propel through the shallow seas by flapping its large flippers. http://unmuseum.mus.pa.us/plio.mov

Hunting The Liopleurodon was an omnivore, eating both meats and plants. Its long jaw and rows of needle-sharp teeth enabled it to be a primary predator. The Liopleurodon’s nose enhanced it’s ability to smell underwater, therefore being able to smell its prey from long distances.

Facts The Liopleurodon was part of a group of short-necked plesiosaurs that became the pliosaurs. The head of the largest Liopleurodon to be discovered was thirteen feet long with a ten foot jaw. The teeth of Liopleurodons were twice the size of those of a T-Rex.
