1 Infection Control Hand washing is the best way to prevent the spread of infection. Even though Healthcare workers wear gloves that does not take the place of hand washing. Hand washing should be done before and after wearing gloves, before and after patient contact, contact with your eyes nose and mouth, going to the restroom etc.

2 Infection Control The CDC recommends the use of alcohol foams or gels for up to 10 times or until hands become sticky with product in place of soap and water as long as hands of gloves are not visibly soiled. Exception to the rule is patient that has Clostridium difficile (c-diff) as the spores are not killed by alcohol so DO NOT use alcohol.

3 Infection Control All linen once used goes into a blue bag as contaminated. All trash that is saturated to the point of dripping with blood and body fluids, (except for urine and feces unless there is visible blood) go into a red biohazard bag. All isolation trash goes into a red biohazard bag. All other trash goes into regular trash.

4 Infection control Patients that are in isolation should have a cart of Personal Protective equipment outside of the room, (this is available from the materials management department) and there should be a sign telling you the type of isolation and the type of PPE needed.
