Warming up: Some people all their life work in art. Make sure that you can name these people’s jobs correctly. Match the names of arts with the names of people’s activities. Work in a chain. 13 Let’s listen and discuss. The text “The role of art in people’s life”.
There are some new words in the text: A duet – дуэт To rob - грабить To pay taxes – платить налоги Listen to the sentences with these words and translate them: One day they were looking for rich families to rob. He saw a young man and a girl playing a duet on a piano. He didn’t like paying taxes. Now we’ll listen to the text and after the first listening you’ll answer the question: Did the art help the family not to be robbed by Jim’s people?

14 After the second listening you’ll find out which of these sentences are true and which are false. Write “+ “or “– “after each sentence. 1. Jim was clever, but lazy. 2. He didn’t like paying taxes. 3. He always used clever people to steal for him. 4. They tried to find rich families. 5. One of his men played a duet on a piano with a girl. 6. The girl’s family was poor. 7. The art helped the family not to be robbed.
