How do we help children become engaged successful readers? Talk to a neighbour

Our project Almost every elementary school in the district involved K-3 teachers Each team forms an inquiry question They focus on one child with the idea that it will help all Teams meet monthly and share experiences and try new approaches

Areas of Inquiry Developing stamina and choosing just right books Engagement and motivation Phonological awareness Developing confidence Self regulation Personalized learning

Teachers are reporting: “Guess what? Our inquiry student is really starting to soar! It’s all coming together for him… so great!” “I think what’s really helped is the small group instruction. Our student’s self confidence has really grown… in all areas, not just reading. I think she really believes in herself as a learner!” I see our student as being calmer, happier, more confident” It’s working for all of our students…” Nothing motivates kids like success. I see he has more initiative.”
