Volume of a Cylinder and Cone Today we will answer the very important question …. Which holds more ice cream; a small cup or a cone? Predictions?
2
We know volume is the amount of cubic units that fill a 3-D object. We want to know how to calculate volume for a cylinder and a cone. We will learn how to use our volume formulas to see how much ice cream a cup and cone can hold.
3
Previous Formulas Learned Area and Circumference of a Circle Formula to find the area of a circle:The formula to find the circumference of the circle: Area is the space inside of an object. Circumference is the perimeter (length outside) of a circle. Today’s 3D shapes have bases that are circles. We will be using the Area formula to help us find our Volume.
4
Volume of a Cylinder Label the BASE and HEIGHT of the cylinder below: Base of the Cylinder! Height of the Cylinder! What shape is the base of a cylinder?A CIRCLE
5
Cylinder Formula B = Area of the base h = Height r = Radius = Pi = 3.14
