10 About Since it’s creation in 1993 the Mimi Fertz Gallery has represented the contemporary art of Russia, the former Soviety republics, and the Baltic States. The goal of the gallery is to present a definitive view of art from this part of the world through exhibitions highlighting nonconformist movements and emerging artists of this century. The gallery wishes to create a cultural dialogue to broaden the exchange of ideas through exhibitions, publications, symposiums, lectures and charitable events.

11 Recent Artists and Exhibits
The Gallery is hosting an exhibition now titled “Charcoal on Canvas” which will be in the gallery from March 21 - April 24, 2013. The exhibition features the art of Danja Akulin. “Akulin’s black-and-white drawings successfully seem to combine the lifelike and the abstract.  They are forceful, characteristically labor-intensive, and they represent his constant engagement with nature, strictly through light and shadow.” - Exert from the Mimi Fertz Gallery website about the exhibition. 12 Danja Akulin Danja Akulin was born in 1977 in Leningrad, Russia.
He graduated from the prestigious Berlin Academy of the Arts. His work emphasizes simplicity in both concept and form. Akulin is known for his pencil and sepia brush drawings as well as his use of light to define the meditative moods of his work. “Eschewing complicated subject-matter, Akulin allows the viewer the pleasure of mere contemplation. A group of trees, a set of nails, a window – the depiction of these simple objects permits the artist to freely experiment with texture, creating mesmerizing optical effects and leaving their contents open for multitude of interpretations.” -Exert from artist biography
