Le passé composé (PC) Used to describe specific past events. Example: I played; I did play; I have played A compound tense (2 parts to the verb) Helping Verb (HV) Past Participle (PP)

The Helping Verb (HV) For most verbs, the HV is avoir j’ai nous avons tu asvous avez il/elle/on a ils/elles ont

The Past Participle (PP) To form the PP of regular verbs: Take off the infinitive ending Add the PC ending -er → -éjouer → joué -ir → -i finir → fini -re → -uvendre → vendu

Example PC conjugation j’ai vendunous avons vendu tu as venduvous avez vendu il/elle/on a venduils/elles ont vendu The PP stays the same for the entire conjugation—only the HV changes!

To form sentences in the PC Subject + HV + PP (+rest of sentence) Examples: Present Tense: Je mange → PC: J’ai mangé. Present Tense: Nous choisissons le film. → PC: Nous avons choisi le film.

PC in the negative form The negative (ne…pas) will only go around the HV Example: Je n’ai pas mangé. Nous n’avons pas choisi le film. Example PC conjugation in the negative form: je n’ai pas vendunous n’avons pas vendu tu n’as pas venduvous n’avez pas vendu il/elle/on n’a pas venduils/elles n’ont pas vendu
