3 Training Objectives  Develop an efficient model of training combining e- learning and in-class sessions.  Problem based learning format.  Competency based training/assessment.  Problem based in–class sessions.  Progressive development model.  Develop consistent investigative standards and protocols throughout Alberta.  Increase the skills of all investigators in Alberta.  Develop an effective evaluation component. 3

5 Early Development Identify the competency of a superior investigator Focus Groups to identify competencies and how they wanted the information to delivered Sustainable program that taught competencies of investigations 5

6 Blended Learning Blended learning combines the latest technologies with traditional classroom activities On-line learning is engaging and interactive Provide critical skills and knowledge Use what is learned online for the practical portion Online assignments directly relate to classroom activities 6

7 Benefits of Online Learning Unrealistic to pull everyone off the street for the number of hours of training needed Able to educate a greater number of people province wide Make the most of in-class time Theory based – less lecture time Everyone at the same knowledge level from the start Training available to more people Great use of logistical resources 7

8 Standardized Learning Provincial wide curriculum and evaluation On-line courses reach everyone in Province Collaborative learning environment both on- line and in-class brings members of provincial agencies together 8

9 Evaluation  ISEP 200  Students will be evaluated on their:  Note books  Online assignments  Street Check Report  ITO/Search Warrant  Source registration and debriefing reports  Structured interviews  Arrest report  Show Cause package 9

11 Progress to date Grant obtained through the S.G. to continue the program development and implementation Project manager and 2 Instructional Designers hired Level 200 pilot project (Nov. 2008 to Jun 2009). Level 200 Province Wide 150 learners in 2009 North and South Level 400 Alberta North and South Level 300 R & D in 2009, pilot 2010 11
