2 Miywasin Youth Lodge – Who We Are An Aboriginal residential group home for Aboriginal children ages 0 to 12 Located in St. Albert, Alberta Licensed for six beds Staff are all First Nations or Metis (including Metis Settlements) Not equipped to offer services for extreme behaviour challenges

3 Opportunities Although the home may be far from the child’s home community, the city offers many opportunities. Examples include: An Aboriginal elementary school in Edmonton (Prince Charles) Library close to the home Cultural activities during the week at Bent Arrow Traditional Society and the Canadian Native Friendship Centre Museum, Valley Zoo, Fort Edmonton Park, Nature Centre, waterparks First Nation reserves close to the city that have annual cultural celebrations: Enoch, Alexis, Alexander, Samson, Louis Bull, Ermineskin, Montana, Paul Neighborhood parks – Wilderness and Lions

4 Services Provided PER DIEM: Basic Group Home Care - $375 24 hour supervision. Teaching of basic life skills and work related skills (if applicable). Development and maintenance of a care plan with assistance from Case Worker. Food and lodging. Common equipment and furnishings (including bed and mattress). Toiletries (excluding cosmetics): Hand soap and body wash, toilet paper, moisturizing lotion if needed, shampoo and conditioner, toothbrush and toothpaste, comb Recreational activities - Transportation to and from activity; cost of outing Cultural activities - Transportation to and from activity; cost of outing Weekly allowances. Allowance for incidental clothing items. Basic medical supplies as stocked in the Lodge’s First Aid Kit.

5 Services Provided - Continued Non-prescription and over-the-counter stock medications (ie. Children’s Advil, Children’s Tylenol) Administration of agreed upon medications as authorized by the child’s Case Worker. General laundry services. School field trips $5 and under. Transportation to and from the nearest school. Transportation for medical appointments within the St. Albert and Edmonton boundaries. Birthday and Christmas gifts. Moderate Special Needs Group Home Care - $385 This applies to children with moderate special needs (ie. Bed wetting, specific learning disabilities, emotional and behavioral disorders, and mild developmental disabilities). All of the items listed under Basic Group Home Care. Special attention/companionship needed for a closer, personal supervision. Covers increased laundry supplies and water needed for bed wetting children.

6 Services Provided - Continued Items Not Covered in the Per Diems Stated Above Initial clothing expense. Annual vacation/recreation allowances. Individual recreation (eg music lessons, dance lessons, sports teams). Educational costs - school fees, books, special courses, special clothing. Therapist/counseling services. Transportation to medical appointments and/or visits outside of the City of St. Albert and the City of Edmonton boundaries. Medical, dental and optical costs over what is covered by INAC. Incontinence supplies (disposable underpads, briefs and inserts; special mattress covers). Any other item that would be out of the ordinary. Such costs will be forwarded to your office for written authorization.

8 Group Home Layout – Front foyer Security system is monitored and detects windows and doors opening that have point-of-contacts installed. The home has two levels – this is a look from the main floor onto the front foyer. A look at the upstairs and downstairs from the front door.
