3
John 6:26-55(NASB) 26 Jesus answered them and said, “Truly, truly, I say to you, you seek Me, not because you saw signs, but because you ate of the loaves and were filled.
4
27 Do not work for the food which perishes, but for the food which endures to eternal life, which the Son of Man will give to you, for on Him the Father, God, has set His seal.”
5
28 Therefore they said to Him, “What shall we do, so that we may work the works of God?” 29 Jesus answered and said to them, “This is the work of God, that you believe in Him whom He has sent.”
6
30 So they said to Him, “What then do You do for a sign, so that we may see, and believe You? What work do You perform?
7
31 Our fathers ate the manna in the wilderness; as it is written, ‘He gave them bread out of heaven to eat.’”
8
32 Jesus then said to them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, it is not Moses who has given you the bread out of heaven, but it is My Father who gives you the true bread out of heaven.
9
33 For the bread of God is that which comes down out of heaven, and gives life to the world.”
10
Many of the people following Jesus because of what they 1. heard 2. saw 3. provision
11
Jesus saw in their heart that they were only following him for what he would provide for them
12
Many people come to Jesus because of their various situations but Jesus also wants people to know that he can give them something that is far more greater
13
The church- so many people has lost the focus on why Jesus came
14
Jesus is sharing this not with the world but with the church he was sent to lost house of Israel
15
59 These things He said in the synagogue as He taught in Capernaum.
16
Do you follow Jesus because he fills u with bread?
17
27 Do not work for the food which perishes, but for the food which endures to eternal life, which the Son of Man will give to you, for on Him the Father, God, has set His seal.”
18
28 Therefore they said to Him, “What shall we do, so that we may work the works of God?”
19
Jesus was also in a quest of enlighten the people of his own self identity
20
29 Jesus answered and said to them, “This is the work of God, that you believe in Him whom He has sent.”
21
A lot of people reduce that statement to, well I believe in Jesus, I’m not an atheist, I'm not an agnostic I believe in Jesus I,m a christian
22
30 So they said to Him, “What then do You do for a sign, so that we may see, and believe You? What work do You perform?
23
The people were still doubting Jesus they were asking for a sign
24
31 Our fathers ate the manna in the wilderness; as it is written, ‘He gave them bread out of heaven to eat.’”
25
The Bread from Heaven
26
Exodus 16 The Lord Provides Manna
27
Jesus is about to explain to them about a manna of a different kind
28
What we need to realize is that what Jesus says is steeped in metaphoric and figurative language
