1 Welcome eager young artists! Ms. Edelman Monday, April 27, 2015  DO NOW: take out your notebook and a pen. Review your notes from yesterday.

2 What is the SMUDGE tool?  The Smudge tool simulates the effect you see when you drag a finger through wet paint. The tool picks up color where the stroke begins and pushes it in the direction you drag.  Shortcut: None!

3 How do I use the SMUDGE?  Select the Smudge tool  Choose a brush tip and options for the blending mode in the options bar.  Select Finger Painting in the options bar to smudge using the foreground color at the beginning of each stroke.  Drag in the image to smudge the pixels.

4 What are the BLUR and SHARPEN tool?  Blur and sharpen create the opposite effects.  Use SAMPLE ALL LAYERS option to work on an empty layer to better judge your art.

5 How can I easily change my brush size?  [ = smaller brush size  ] = larger brush size  Works with paintbrush, eraser, clone stamp, smudge/sharpen/blur, dodge/burn/sponge

6 EXERCISE: 1. Open the file: gourde.jpg 2. Create a new layer, label it EFFECTS. 3. Apply the smudge tool to the left gourde to create motion effect. Be sure to select SAMPLE ALL LAYERS in the options bar. 4. Apply the blur tool to the center gourde to create depth of field effect. 5. Apply the sharpen tool to the left gourde to make the texture pop. 6. Save As: yourname_smudge.psd
